Gigabit fibre broadband voucher scheme from the DCMS

As part of the UK Government’s commitment to a ‘full fibre’ broadband Britain,  the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport’s Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme has launched, potentially worth £67m to UK businesses, who can claim up to £3,000 against the cost of a gigabit connection, either individually or a group project.

The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme is part of the Local Full Fibre Networks programme, launched in late 2017, which has the strategic objective of increasing full fibre coverage across the UK. Full fibre broadband connections offer the fastest and most reliable speeds available.

Gigabit vouchers can be used by small businesses and the local communities surrounding them (as a group) to contribute to the installation cost of a gigabit capable connection. Businesses and groups can claim up to £3,000 against the cost of connection. Residents can also benefit from the scheme as part of a group as long as it includes businesses, and can claim for a voucher of up to a value of £500.

The first step is to find a registered supplier by putting in your postcode at the link.

Improved connectivity can revolutionise quality of life, from how we work and how our children learn, to how we spend leisure time, and how we engage with public services. A detailed review of the economic impacts of broadband is available in this UK Broadband Impact Study.
