Housing association helps people into employment

For over 20 years, Soha has been operating as a community based housing association, based in South Oxfordshire. Their aim is to work closely with residents to make a difference to local neighbourhoods, households and lives.

In 2016 Soha Housing secured a European Social Fund grant that enables them to help people into employment and training. This support is offered to anyone living in Oxfordshire, they do not have to be a Soha tenant. Titled Launchpad the scheme has offered training on subjects such as how to prepare for interviews, use of the internet to search and apply for jobs, and other training tailored to an individual’s needs.

On successful completion of one of their courses, trainees will be presented with a Level 1 Extended Award in Learning, Employability and Progression, which can be listed as a Level 1 Award in Customer Service and Employability on CVs. Don’t worry if you have been out of education for some time, there are no entry requirements and no exam to take at the end. Each unit is assessed through the activities, discussions and worksheets you complete during the course.

The next four day course will be held at Soha’s offices in Didcot. Titled ‘Working in Customer Service’, it runs from 1316 November 2017. The course will cover CV writing, communication skills, understanding customer needs and more.

To book, please call 0800 014 15 45 and ask for the Launchpad team, or email launchpad@soha.co.uk

If you or anyone you know feel they would benefit from this service, please get in touch with Soha or SO Business. On the course which ran in March 2016, of the eight attendees that took part three have since got jobs, so it really does work.
