Thame’s second Open Doors event is set to take place on Saturday 9 July 2016.
Open Doors provides local businesses – industrial, manufacturing, technology, logistics, marketing, B2B service providers, and others – with a fantastic opportunity to showcase their businesses to the people of Thame and its surroundings.
There is a huge level of expertise in businesses in and around the town, providing employment and creating wealth in the area. However, unlike the retail outlets, which have a constant visible presence, businesses on industrial estates are virtually anonymous – unknown, except by the people who work there.
Building on the success of Open Doors 2015
Inspired by the Thame Business Forum, the inaugural Open Doors event was held in July 2015, with around 30 companies exhibiting in and around Thame Town Hall.
The larger employers in Thame, and many smaller B2B service providers, showcased themselves to the wider community.
A large tractor, a forklift truck, diggers and mowers filled the High Street and drew in the crowds.
Printing technology, interactive digital signage, and a host of service providers were all on display and engaging with the public. Nobody was selling anything – emphasising instead ‘here we are, and this is what we do’.
Many local people came to chat with the exhibitors and most were astonished to learn about the diversity of business within the area.
They learned about companies they never knew existed, employers met with previous and retired employees, and students got some useful insights into future employment options.
It was also a great opportunity for the businesses to make new contacts, network with each other and learn about the expertise available on their doorstep.
It was truly a celebration of Thame’s economic diversity beyond the retail and tourism sectors that normally get the spotlight.
Why should your business get involved?
Your business is an important part of the local community, and an essential part of the local economy, yet most people are not aware of the scope and diversity of local businesses. Exhibiting at Open Doors will help you:
- instil a sense of pride and belonging in your employees
- learn more about current and potential local suppliers and service providers
- meet local people, some of whom may represent potential clients.
Open Doors provides the perfect opportunity to connect with these and more. If you have a story to tell, a product to show, or an interesting technology, why not share it with your local community?
