To ensure continued town centre vitality, South Oxfordshire District Council is working in partnership with Thame Town Council and other organisations.
To deliver its market towns strategy, the town council, with support from South Oxfordshire District Council, employs a market town co-ordinator. Becky Reid produces the Thame Action Plan, which aims to improve economic vitality in the town centre and beyond. Click on the link to see the latest version – Action Plan 2016-18, Aug 17 update.
In 2016, Thame wowed the judges as a finalist at the prestigious Great British High Street Competition. After gaining a ‘Rising Star’ in the 2015 awards, Thame’s star shone even more brightly as runner up in the ‘Small Market Town’ category. The organisers commented, ‘In our view every finalist is a winner! 900+ applications and you made the top 3 in category!’
The Great British High Streets Awards is run by the Department for Community and Local Government’s Future High Streets Forum, which brings together leaders across retail, property and business to better understand the competition town centres across the country face and to drive forward new ideas and policies.
